Friday Flyer – Concert and Nativity Edition!

Welcome to the first of our regular updates from School which contains information and lots of pictures from the various concerts, performances and Nativities which have taken place in School over the last few weeks.

We hope that you enjoy looking at the pictures and sharing them with your children over the festive period. I am sure that they will really like telling you about them.

Don’t miss the QR code which will link to a YouTube video of some excerpts from the Lower Key Stage 2 Ukulele Concert.

Have a wonderful Christmas!

Year 6 trip to Beamish!

Year 6 visited Beamish Museum to add to our learning about the Victorian era. In the old school building, we took part in a “Victorian lesson” experience; this was very different to our lessons today!  We also explored the 1900s town and caught a tram at the end of the day. Some of us even met Santa!

Introducing Genres

Today in Year 3 (for our last ever Alfie Onion lesson) we investigated different genres.

First, we thought about what ‘genre’ means. Then, we explored the features of a range of genres. Finally, in groups, we prepared presentations to discuss which genre (or genres) we thought The Adventures of Alfie Onion belonged too.

Zones of Regulation

We are making super progress, in Year 3, with naming our emotions. We have sorted feelings in to 4 coloured zones.

We know there is no such thing as a bad feeling or a feeling we aren’t allowed to have; we do know that some feelings can help us be more effective learners and some can make learning tricky!

We have created some display posters for our classroom to support us as we practise communicating how we feel.

Exploring Paragraphs

Year 3 thought about how paragraphs are a collection of sentences about the same thing.

We explored some paragraphs from our class text (The Adventures of Alfie Onion by Vivian French) to find out what they look like and when they change.

We know you need a new paragraph each time you write about a new person, place, time or topic.

Mechanical Systems

We have read our design brief in Year 3. In order to design and make our final product, we had to explore some mechanical systems. We have learnt about inputs, outputs, levers and linkages and then had our first go at making a mechanical system!
